Winter in Munich, Germany

Day 1: Arrival:

After my three day stay in London, I headed to Munich by flying with British Airways out of London-Heathrow Airport. It was my first time using the airline, and I was very pleased with their exceptional service.  I would highly recommend them to anyone flying through Europe. I checked into my cute hotel called Bold.  I absolutely loved their unique appearance and location! The train station to the center of the city was a 10 minute walk away, and then a 10 minute train ride. I loved being able to stay in the hotel, because the word bold definitely describes me in general.  It’s bold to be a solo female traveler and not depend on anyone while exploring the world. If you want to learn more about Bold Hotels, you can find them on Instagram @boldhotels and bold-hotels.com.

After checking in, I headed straight to the BMW Museum and Welt before they closed. Once I arrived to the museum, I only had thirty minutes to explore, but it was absolutely amazing! After the museum, I headed to the Welt, right next door (which is open until midnight). Other than the museum, which was 10 Euros to get in, the Welt is completely free. The Welt is a car display/showroom of the recent BMWs. You can even sit in the cars.  All you have to do is ask!

After my experience, I headed into town for dinner. I ended up at the popular beer garden called Hofbräuhaus.  Everything was wonderful; the food and the beer! I had my first real German beer that took me two hours to drink. The restaurant had a band and everyone was just so lively! It was a great place to end my first night.

Day 2: Day Trip to Neuschwanstein & Linderhof Castles:

The next morning, I scheduled a 10 hour tour that started at 8:30 am to see the Neuschwanstein & Linderhof Castles. This trip from Munich was traveled in a luxury air-conditioned tour bus.  In the seclusion of the mountains, King Ludwig II of Bavaria built two of his dream-castles: Neuschwanstein and Linderhof. The first stop we had was to Linderhof, which was the only castle that Ludwig the II managed to complete. I decided not to tour inside either castle because I needed to save money.  After Linderhof, we headed to a cute German town called Oberammergau.  This afforded me the opportunity for photos and shopping.  I personally thought the visit into the town should have been longer since it was gorgeous!

Our final stop was at Neuschwanstein Castle, whichwas positioned in the stunning foothills of the Alps! It is also one the most impressive sights in Germany. You have four hours to explore the land and every fascinating detail. This is where I stopped for lunch before I headed up to visit the views of the magical castle. It took about thirty minutes to hike up the trail, which was VERY steep!  But every minute of it was worth it once you got to the top. This experience was amazing and everyone should take a tour of these castles!  Later that evening, after the tour, I ended the night eating dinner at Augustiner-Keller.  It was another amazing beer hall!  Outside there was even a bonfire for people who just wanted to drink and sit by the fire. The owner even stopped by and offered a free drink, which ended my night perfectly.

Day 3: Birthday & Day Trip to Salzburg:

This morning was different since it was my birthday!  I woke up feeling wonderful and ready to take my day trip to Salzburg, Austria so I could celebrate my birthday in two different countries.  I first started with a wonderful breakfast at the hotel.  Then I headed straight to the main train station for my 10 am train to Salzburg.  Remember, if you are headed to another country even on train or bus, DO NOT forget your passport. My two hour train ride was beautiful and I arrived at noon, which gave me four hours to explore before my train ride back at four pm.  I started out exploring every Sound of Music movie spot I could find.  I went from the Do Re Mi Fountain in the Mirabellgarten, to Residenzgalerie, to Nonnberg Abbey, and a final spot to see Mozart’s birthplace.  I was done in three hours of time which allowed me to grab some lunch before my train left.  I found a cute restaurant called, Johann, next to the train station, and that’s where I got my Mozart cake for my birthday!

After getting back to Germany, I headed to a concert to photograph Chase Rice, a country music artist from Nashville, who was touring through Europe.  I’ve been photographing his shows since he started in 2014, so seeing this talented country singer tour Europe was absolutely wonderful.  Make sure you check out his music. This was the perfect ending to my birthday and last night in Munich, Germany!
