Day 1: Arrival in Lucerne, Switzerland
Earlier that morning, I left on a bus from Munich, Germany to Lucerne with a transfer at the main train station in Zurich. If you are coming from another country by train, bus or plane then you will have to transfer at Zurich HB to take the only train that stops in Lucerne. My journey took about five hours with arriving around 2pm in Lucerne’s cutest small town. Now Switzerland in general can very expensive so you have to pick the right hotel. I booked Hotel Magic, which was a 10- minute walk from the main train station and right on the water. It was perfect and the room was incredible! The hotel was only $300 for all three nights, which included a mini fridge and complimentary coffee. Once I checked in, I went straight for a nap after all my traveling. Later, that evening, after I found an affordable Italian Restaurant near the hotel, I went exploring this adorable town. I knew since I had a mini fridge, I could stock up on some important food essentials. Water at the grocery store was only 1 Swiss Franc when at a restaurant it would be at least 4. I ended the night grocery shopping and enjoying walking around town.
Day 2: Titlis Half Day Tour – External Snow & Glacier
The next morning, I grabbed some Starbucks around the corner before heading off to my half day tour to Engelberg to see Mt.Titlis. Since I am born and raised in Florida, I knew this was going to be a once in a life time experience since I haven’t really been around snow and mountains. The meeting spot for the tour was right next to the train station by McDonalds in the middle of the street. Don’t be late, or they will leave without you. I booked my tour through Get Your Guide, but you can also book it through Viator. You get to board your coach and enjoy a breathtaking drive to Engelberg through the high-alpine glacier world of Titlis Mountain.
Once you get to the entrance, your tour guide will be there every step of the way until the very top. You first take a lift all the way up until you are ready to board the revolving cable car. Once you get off the cable car, you can either head straight to the glacier cave or to the cliff walk. I went to the glacier cave first, and it was absolutely incredible! It was very packed, so it was hard to take pictures… but then again, I booked this on a Saturday. Then I proceeded to the 5th and final floor to see the breathtaking views of Mt.Titlis! The cliff walk was very nerve racking when it was swinging while walking on it, but this whole experience was amazing! I could just stay up there and watch those views all day. I booked my first ski experience for the following day at the same location. I was happy I did this tour first so I knew exactly where to go. After about three hours of exploring, it was time to head back to the bus and board for Lucerne. After my arrival back into town, I found a cute and affordable sushi place called, Negishi, which is where I ended my night.
Day 3: Ski Experience in Engelberg
After a nice morning of sleeping in, I headed to the train station for breakfast before my train departed to Engelberg. The train leaves every hour for Engelberg & it’s 30 Swiss Francs for a round trip. Since I heard it would be snowing in the late afternoon, I decided to change my ski lesson to noon instead of 3pm. The train ride is only forty minutes with a 10 minute walk to the entrance of Bergbahnen Titlis. This time I wasn’t going all the way up since beginners take one lift to their stop. This level is where the skiing, snow mobiling, snow boarding and snow tubing take place for all beginners.
My lesson was an hour which was perfect for me. At first, I fell twice, but it’s like driving a car for the first time. If you have never been skiing, like myself, and you want to have a place to try, then Switzerland is definitely a bucket list destination! The time and weather were perfect since the sun was shining! It was truly enjoyable. After my experience, I walked around town before I headed back to Lucerne. My last dinner in Switzerland was at a pub right next to the hotel, and it was very affordable! I recommend you take the time to look at the menus outside the restaurants in Lucerne before deciding on a place to dine. Switzerland was amazing, and I am sure I will be back one day!
